Touchless Tire Machine Near St Louis Park

9/22/2021

We often get requests to do special rim and tire sets for super cars, vintage cars and big trucks.  We can service almost all of these vehicles and their unique tire and rim set ups with our Corghi Artiglio Master 26 touchless tire machine.

This machine allows us to do very low profile tires without scratching the rims.  The machine works differently than a traditional rim clamp machine.  Instead of using metal clamps that grab onto the bead of the rim (or the barrel), the touchless tire machine uses a center post to secure the rim to the machine, just like on a balancer.

Then once the rim is secured to the machine, the touchless tire machine uses a unique duckhead design that does not touch the rim or require a bar to mount and dismount the tire.  Most scratches come from either the bar or from the metal duckhead riding too close to the rim and scraping the edge.  That doesn't happen on a touchless machine because the duckhead is 1/8" off the edge of the rim and can be adjusted in 1/10" increments in real time to avoid scratches.

I you've had a set of rims scratched and are looking for a shop with a touchless tire machine give us a call.  We'd love to hear about your project.  952-929-0230

Michelin Pilot Sports on BMW

This BMW was in for a set of new Michelin Pilot Sport tires.  Notice the car is wrapped in gloss yellow on the right and matte yellow on the left.  Very nice looking wrap on a small BMW 1 series.

Need Tires in St Louis Park?

1/19/2021

Install Michelin tires in Edina and St Louis Park
Tires in St Louis Park & Edina
If you need tires, you've come to the right place.  Most of the time when you go to buy tires the employee you are dealing with will be trying to sell you the tires that are best for them.  That means, what they have available quickly, what they make the most money on, or the tire company that's paying them a $20 spiff for each set they sell.

That's not how we operate at Motolux.  What's most important to us about tires, is what's most important to you.  When you come in to purchase a set of tires you are going to walk out of here with a set of tires that fits your specific situation.  We have the expertise and concern for our customers that allows us to get you what you need.  That may mean spending a little extra, or it may mean buying a really cheap set.  To us, it's not the price of the tire that matters, it's matching your needs to the tire that can help you get what you need.

This is what sets Motolux apart from other tire stores in St Louis Park and Edina.  We've found that many of our clients actually enjoy buying tires here instead of feeling like they were steered into something that doesn't really work for them.  You can expect a comfortable, polite experience at Motolux, which is exactly how we've designed it to be.

Tesla Model 3 Tires Don’t Last Long

11/21/2020

Tesla tires Model 3 in Edina & St Louis Park
Tesla tires Model 3
These Tesla tires on this Model 3 only have 6/32 left on them at 11,000 miles! At this rate this Model 3 is going to need 4 new tires at 22,000 miles.

We see tires wear like this all the time on Teslas. The extra weight from the battery packs combined with the amazing torque and fun-to-drive factor means Teslas go through tires 2-3 times faster than normal cars go through tires.

But, that’s ok. At Motolux we have the equipment and experience to put tires on your Tesla Model 3 and Model S safely and professionally without damaging the rims, sensors or the battery packs. We follow Tesla approved lifting protocols and only use tires with the appropriate load index to maximize tire life.

BMW and VW Repairs

10/20/2020

We had a full day doing Bosch brake pads, a transmission filter w/ VW transmission fluid and OE spark plugs on a Volkswagen Jetta.  The Bimmers were in for Continental Extreme Contact tires and a 5w30 Liqui Moly oil change with a Mann oil filter and a Mann air filter.  Nothing but the best for this trio!

Toyo Tires for Track Day

10/16/2020

Got to throw a set of Toyo Proxes on this super rare 2018 Jeep Trackhawk.  The exhaust sound on this thing is amazing!  Owner was taking it to the track to "exercise" and the original Pirellis were low on tread.  No prob...the owner stopped by in the morning and we had a set of 4 tires on the Jeep by late afternoon.

P.S. Check out those stock Brembo calipers in yellow!

Tires...even weird vintage tires.

Sometimes we get to see some really interesting cars.  Like this vintage 1950 Jaguar XK140 that we threw a set of tires on.

Turned out awesome!

Michelin Tires Near St Louis Park

3/11/2020

That's right....we have them available in just about every model and size you could possibly need.  Whether it's the Michelin Defender, Michelin Premier, Michelin Primacy...or if you have a truck the Michelin LTX.
Here's the great thing about Michelin tires...and what makes them especially good up here in the Twin Cities.  They have full depth siping.

Take a look at the picture on the right.  All those little cracks are called siping.  Siping is really important, especially if you're cruising the roads here in St. Louis Park during the winter.  It's what allows the tire to bite into wet and icy road surfaces, and it prevents the tire from just sliding.
Michelin tire siping for winter traction in Minnesota
Michelin Tire Siping
Now, all tires have siping but on some tires the siping only penetrates halfway through the tread block.  This means that on a 50k mile tire, you start to lose your traction at 25k miles...way before your tire is officially worn out.  What good is a tire if it doesn't have winter traction?  Exactly.

Michelin's on the other hand, have full depth siping which allows them to have full traction for the entire life of the tire.  Now, you can have the same performance in year 5 as you had when you first bought the tires.  That means shorter stopping distances in traffic jams, better winter traction when it snows, better traction when you are starting from a stoplight or stop sign, plus better control when you steer around a corner or pull into a parking place.  And all of this adds up to a much safer experience.

Ever stopped quickly, only to find that you were within 6 inches of hitting the car in front of you?  Well, better tires would have prevented that...worse tires would have caused an accident.  Ever tried to accelerate when the light turns green only to have your wheels spin in the slush?  Once again, siping helps to prevent that.

If this is starting to make sense to you then it might be time to evaluate whether your tires are performing the way you need them to.  For me, Michelin tires are the best bang for the buck out there.  They offer full siping, 70-80k mile treadwear warranty and some of the quietest and nicest riding tires out there.  Per mile of siping that you get, Michelins are cheaper than any other tire out there.  You might pay a little more, but you get a lot more.

If you have questions or want someone to take a look at your tires...just give us a buzz at Motolux and someone will be sure to take care of you.
